POEM: ಜನುಮ ಗುರಿ – Life’s legacy

ಅಪ್ಪನ ಕೂಡೆ Wakey, wakey my child
ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುವ For it is time
ಹೊತ್ತು ಆಯಿತು To go to school
ಏಳು ಮರಿ II With daddy.

ಸ್ನಾನವ ಮಾಡಿ Quick, quick my dear
ಸಮವಸ್ತ್ರ ತೊಟ್ಟು For it is time
ತಿಂಡಿಯ ತಿಂದು To shower, dress
ಹೊರಡು ಸರಿ II And break the fast.

ಶಾಲೆಯ ಚೀಲವ Lug, lug the school bag
ತಗಲಿಸಿ ಹೆಗಲಿಗ Onto your back,
ಅಪ್ಪನ ತುಳಿಬಂಡಿ Up onto dad’s bike
ಏರು ಮರಿ II And off to school you go.

ತರೀಕೆರೆ ಏರಿಮೇಲೆ Swift, swift as daddy cycles
ರಭಸದಿ ಹೋಗಲು Over the town bund;
ಅಂಜದೆ ಕುಳಿತು Don’t be scared,
ಆನಂದ ಪಡಿ ll Relish the ride.

ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಕಿರಣದಿ Lookey, lookey my son
ಝಳ ಝಳಿಸುವ The allure of the sunflowers
ಸೂರ್ಯ ಕಾಂತೀಯ Basking in the
ಸುತ್ತಲ ಹೂವುಸಿರಿ II Shimmer of sun rays.

ಹರುಷದಿ ಹೊರಟು Cheer, cheer up my dear
ಪಾಠವ ಕಲಿತು Learn your lessons
ಬಲ್ಲವ ನಾಗು Know thyself
ಬಾಲ್ಯ ಕವಿ II My little rimer.

ಅಪ್ಪನ ನೆನಪಲಿ Write, write you lyricist
ಬರೆದ ಕವಿತೆಯ The paean you print
ಮಗನಿಗೆ ಓದುವ Ought to be read to your child,
ಜನುಮ ಗುರಿ II So is life’s legacy.
